Master Chewy (Walk In The Park) Wins The Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton

Grade 2 Glory For Son Of Walk In The Park

Master Chewy (6g Walk In The Park – Shake The Tree, by Shantou) became the latest black-type winner by Walk In The Park when taking the Grade 2 Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ charge proved better than ever upon switching to fences this season, having bolted up on chasing debut and finished a close second on both starts since. Ridden by Tom Bellamy for the first time on Wednesday, he raced in touch throughout the two mile contest and improved to lead at the second last. The bay kept on well on the run-in to win by four lengths and three quarters comfortably.

On future plans, the delighted winning trainer said, “We will either look at the Kingmaker at Warwick or the Lightning at Doncaster before Cheltenham. We will then see how goes after that. The Arkle can often be a small field, so why not give it a go?”

Master Chewy first showcased his talents when trained by Pat Doyle, for whom he finished third on debut at Tattersalls. The James Hoare-bred gelding subsequently sold to William Twiston-Davies for £300,000.
