Mogul (Galileo) Wins The Gr.3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood

Group 1 Aim For Mogul After Goodwood Success

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Mogul (3c Galileo - Shastye, by Danehill) led home a 1-2 for Coolmore Stud sires in Thursday’s Group 3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.

Racing over a mile and a half, the bay raced closed to the pace under Ryan Moore and was ridden approaching the two furlong marker. Improving on the outside, he led inside the final furlong and won by three parts of a length from the progressive Highland Chief (Gleneagles).

Speaking after the race, O’Brien said, “We always thought Mogul was going to take two runs. He's a big, strong, powerful horse who carries a lot of muscle and weight. We were delighted with him today.”

O’Brien added that the Grand Prix de Paris is a possible target for Mogul, who was a Group 2 winner last season. The Group 1 contest was won by Mogul’s full-brother Japan (Galileo) last year, before going on to take the Group 1 Juddmonte International at York. Bred by Newsells Park Stud, Mogul also counts Group winners Sir Isaac Newton (Galileo) and Secret Gesture (Galileo) among his siblings.
