High Class Son Of Milan Wins Chase Debut
Grade 1 hurdler Brewin’upastorm (6g Milan - Daraheen Diamond, by Husyan) made a winning start to his chase career when prevailing in a thrilling finish to Thursday’s Beginners’ Chase at Carlisle.
A winner of his sole point-to-point start and bumper debut, the Olly Murphy-trained bay was last seen finishing second in the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree in April. Reunited with regular rider Richard Johnson, he was sent off second favourite for the two mile contest, the market headed by fellow black-type performer Good Boy Bobby (Flemensfirth).
Johnson rode the bay in last place, waiting until the third last to make headway and disputed at the final flight. Leading on the run-in, he rallied gamely to retain the advantage, beating the favourite by a head on the line as they finished 16 lengths clear of the field.
It will be exciting to see where the Barbara Hester-owned winner goes next. Bred by Longrove Stud, the son of Milan is a half-brother to two black-type horses and fetched £250,000 after winning his point-to-point for Timmy Hyde.
