Maxxum (Westerner) Wins The Novices Hurdle At Clonmel

Homebred Son Of Westerner Lands Maiden Hurdle

The well-related Maxxum (5g Westerner - Anshan Bay, by Anshan) justified strong market support in Tuesday’s maiden hurdle at Clonmel.

The Eugene O’Sullivan-trained bay was sent off joint-favourite under Jordan Canavan, who held up his mount behind the leaders and took closer order from five out. Asserting with two flights left to jump, he kept on well on the run-in to score by two lengths and three quarters.

O’Sullivan gave an encouraging report after the race, saying, “He is a lovely young horse, is a future chaser and we'll definitely give him another run, maybe two, before leaving him off.”

Owned and bred by Patrick Rabbitt, Maxxum is a full-brother to Grade 3 performer Magnium (Westerner).
