Impressive Across The Card Double For Yeats

Irish point-to-point winner Jay Bee Why (5g Yeats - Lady Bernie, by Supreme Leader) made an impressive start to his hurdling career when racing clear to win Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Warwick.

The bay raced towards the back of the field for much of the two mile and furlong contest and began to make headway from four out under Tom Bellamy. Leading approaching the second last, he was shaken up to go clear before the last and won by nine and a half lengths on the line.

Speaking after the race, winning trainer Alan King said, “I thought he was very good last season and he looked quite useful - his point-to-point form is good.”

Bought by Highflyer Bloodstock and Alan King after winning on debut for Colin Bowe, he is now owned by David Sewell and Tim Leadbeater. The son of Yeats was bred by Thistletown Stud, who sold him to Rathmore Stud as a foal for €40,000.

Later that day at Newcastle, the Sue Smith owned and trained Seven Arches (5g Yeats - Santia, by Kahyasi) made a winning debut in the two mile bumper.

Ridden prominently by Ryan Mania, the bay improved to lead from three furlongs out and was ridden to hold off Well Educated (Getaway) by a length and a quarter on the line.

Bred by RW Russell out of Listed winner Santia, Seven Arches is a full-brother to black-type performer Romeo Brown (Yeats).
