Impressive Listed Victory For Flemensfirth
Magic Of Light (7m Flemensfirth - Quest Of Passion, by Saumarez) ran out a wide margin winner of the Listed Mares’ Chase at Newbury on Wednesday.
Ridden to track the leaders by Robbie Power, Jessica Harrington’s raider made progress to lead four from home and coasted clear to score by 14 lengths, as the favourite, Drinks Interval, did her best to narrow the gap.
Kate Harrington represented her mother and later commented, “That was a brilliant win and Magic Of Light ran a great race in the Troytown, but made a bad mistake and lost her position - she ran on really well. The plan is to give her a break and, if the handicapper isn't too mean, go for the Thyestes at Gowran Park. We might come back to Britain as well; she's a good filly and good stayer. Any of those big staying handicaps is where she's going to be, maybe an Irish National.”
Magic Of Light’s fine third in the Troytown Chase was her first start since winning a valuable contest at the Punchestown Festival at the end of last season. Owned by Ann and Alan Potts Limited, the five-time winner was bred by Baronrath and Colbinstown Studs.
