Impressive Newcomer Completes Fine Day For Yeats

The Yellow Clay (4g Yeats - Winning Indian, by Indian Danehill) emerged as a sharp prospect when skipping clear to win Sunday’s bumper at Leopardstown.

Gordon Elliott’s newcomer was sent off favourite in the colours of breeders Bective Stud and was ridden to chase the leaders by Jamie Codd. Travelling best of the field as they approached the turn for home, he was pushed along to lead after the two furlong marker and quickened smartly to draw clear. Eased down close home, he led by three and a half lengths on the line, with another four lengths back to the third.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “The Yellow Clay is a nice horse and we think a good bit of him. I loved the way he hit the line.” On future plans, Elliott commented, “He'll probably go for the Listed bumper in Limerick next, but is a horse for next year and is one to look forward to.”

Earlier that afternoon, New Order (5g Yeats - Ballylough Lady, by Mister Lord) built on a promising debut to take the Five and Six-Year-Old Geldings Maiden at Castlelands point-to-point.

Third at Ballinaboola last month, Liam Kenny’s charge was reunited with rider James Kenny on Sunday and disputed the running throughout. Asserting at the second last, the bay went on to score by six lengths, with the runner-up finishing clear of the third.

Owned by Gavan Kinch and bred by Joseph O’Rahilly, New Order is a full-brother to Grade 3 winner The Goffer (Yeats).

Castlehyde Stud sire Yeats was also on the scoreboard at Ffos Las, where point-to-point winner Young Buster (7g Yeats - Shatani, by Sharastani) gained his first win under rules in the maiden hurdle over two and a half miles.

Sent off favourite on his second start for Fergal O’Brien, the bay raced in midfield for much of the way and took closer order from three out. Cruising into the lead before the second last, he was shaken up to draw clear approaching the final flight and was eased down on the run-in to win by four and a quarter lengths under Paddy Brennan.

Young Buster is owned by the Good Stock Syndicate and was bred by Yawl Bloodstock with James Browne.
