Improving Son Of Westerner Delivers In Bumper
Largy Ray (5g Westerner - Debut, by Presenting) reproduced the promise shown on debut to get off the mark in Friday’s bumper at Kilbeggan.
Stuart Crawford’s charge was well-supported on debut last season and showed signs of inexperience when finishing a promising fifth. Partnered by Stephen Connor on Friday, he raced towards the back of the field for much of the way and began to improve from four furlongs out. Racing prominently with two furlongs left to race, he was ridden to lead on the turn for home and ran on well to win by two and a half lengths.
“He shows plenty of ability at home,” the winning rider later revealed. “He proved it today and had loads left coming to the line. He's a nice horse going forward.”
Bred by Seosamh Murphy, the improving son of Westerner is owned by Raymond Scullion and Martin McGrogan.
