Milan Mare A Smooth Winner On Hurdle Debut
Nina The Terrier (5m Milan - Shees A Dante, by Westerner) led home a 1-2 for Grange Stud sire Milan in the Join Racing TV Now Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Warwick on Monday.
Successful in a bumper in November, the Alan King-trained mare was sent off joint favourite on her hurdle debut over two miles. Racing in midfield for much of the way under Tom Bellamy, she made good headway from three out and produced a strong challenge at the final flight. Leading on the run-in, she kept on well to win by three lengths from fellow market leader Subway Surf (Milan).
Owned by Charles Dingwall, Nina The Terrier was bred by Sam Doyle out of a winning half-sister to God’s Own (Oscar). She provides an update for her half-brother by Flemensfirth, who fetched €62,000 as a foal and is catalogued in the Goffs UK Spring Store Sale.
