Milan Mare Delights Connections With Second Bumper Success
Subway Surf (5m Milan - Dante Rouge, by Croco Rouge) looked a class above her rivals when winning the bumper at Chepstow on Thursday.
Having won her point-to-point debut for Colin Motherway, she made a successful start for Kim Bailey in a bumper at Ludlow, before finishing third at Ascot last time out. Sent off favourite on Thursday under Mikey Hamil, she raced prominently in a field of 14 and was travelling well when taking the lead three furlongs from home. Ridden out from the two furlong marker, she stayed on strongly to beat promising newcomer Vienna Court (Mahler) by five lengths.
Subway Surf is owned by a partnership that includes former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond and TV star Carol Vordermann, who said of the win, “That was marvellous, fantastic. Hopefully we're going to have a lot of fun with her.” Assistant trainer Mat Nicholls added, “It's great for Carol and Mindy and the whole yard as this is a lovely filly who will make some hurdler next season.”
Bred by Mrs Liz O’Leary, Subway Surf is the first foal out of the mare, an unraced half-sister to dual Graded winner Loosen My Load.
