New US Stakes-winner for Churchill
Due back in Australia this spring, Churchill added a new stakes-winner to his tally in North America on Friday when Frankie Dettori partnered Poolside with Slim (3f Churchill x Kissepal, by Epaulette) to victory in the Listed $150,000 Penn Oaks (1m) on the grass at Penn National.
Trained by Rusty Arnold, Poolside with Slim was given a gem of a ride by Frankie Dettori settling on the fence in third place before angling into the clear to take the lead.
She had enough left in the run to the line to win by a head calming her first stakes win.
Purchased for €110,000 from the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, Poolside with Slim has had five starts for two wins and a second with the promise of more wins to come.
She is the best of two winners from unraced Kissepal, a half-sister to Group II winner Besharah by Australian bred Group I sire Epaulette, who shuttled to the Europe before his eventual sale to Turkey.
Poolside with Slim is the 24th stakes-winner for Churchill, who returns to Australia this spring at a fee of $19,800.
