Newcomer Kicks Off Sunday Double For Mahler
Dream On Daddy (5g Mahler – Brazen Head, by Kayf Tara) made a perfect start to his career on Sunday when winning the five-year-old geldings maiden at Ballyvodock.
The Terence O’Brien-trained gelding faced 14 rivals on debut and chased the leaders in the early stages under Darragh Allen. He improved to lead from three out and kept on well on the run-in to beat Minella Post (Champs Elysees) by half a length.
Owned by Denis O’Connor, Dream On Daddy was bred by Michael and Kevin Roche.
Fellow point-to-point winner Wicked Thoughts (5g Mahler – Emily’s Princess, by Flemensfirth) gained his first win under rules at Musselburgh later that afternoon.
The son of Mahler sold for £135,000 after bolting up on his sole start for Tom Ellis and returned in October to finish a promising third on rules debut for Paul Nicholls. He was sent off favourite for Sunday’s bumper and raced prominently throughout the two mile contest under Harry Cobden. Keeping on well inside the final furlong, he led close home to win by a neck.
Wicked Thoughts is owned by Ecurie Mrs Lynne Maclennan and was bred by Thomas Norris. He is one of three winners by Mahler produced by the Flemensfirth mare Emily’s Princess.
