Order Of St George’s Mighty Bandit Scores For New Connections
Warren Greatrex’s exciting recruit Mighty Bandit (4g Order Of St George – Akalara, by Masterofthehorse) got off the mark for new connections in Tuesday’s ten furlong maiden at Pontefract.
The first crop son of Order Of St George ran out an impressive debut winner of a maiden hurdle for Gordon Elliott in November and later brought €420,000 from Highflyer Bloodstock at Tattersalls Ireland. Runner-up last month, he was reunited with Eddy Greatrex on Tuesday and raced prominently on ground described as soft. Waiting for room as they approached the two furlong marker, he was ridden to lead inside the final furlong and stayed on to score by half a length, with another three and a quarter lengths back to the third.
“I'm delighted for the horse as he tries very hard,” said the winning rider.
Owned by Jim and Claire Limited, Mighty Bandit is the best performer bred by Mountainview Stud out of Akalara. Order Of St George has made a smart start at stud, with his first runners winning seven four-year-old maidens, including £350,000 purchase Buckna. His second crop were popular at the recent store sales, selling for up to €110,000.
