Promising Getaway Gelding Wins Five-Year-Old Maiden

Small Town Kid (5g Getaway – Knocknaree Lady, by Arakan) built on a promising debut to win Sunday’s five-year-old maiden at Ballyragget.

Donnchadh Doyle’s charge finished third at Kirkistown last month and was one of 12 geldings to line up on Sunday. Chasing the leaders in the early stages, he led with a circuit to race, but was headed four from home. Staying on well on the run-in, he led close home and kept on to win by a length and a half under Rob James.

A return to the sales ring is now on the cards for Small Town Kid, who was bred by Patrick Crotty.
