Promising Newcomer Completes Double For Yeats

Don’t Tell David (5g Yeats - Ashbury, by Catcher In The Rye) made a winning debut in Thursday’s bumper at Warwick, to complete a double on the card for sire Yeats.

Ridden in midfield by Sam Twiston-Davies, the bay made headway from four furlongs out and was shaken up to lead at the two furlong marker. Keeping on well, he was ridden out to beat the favourite by a length and three quarters.

Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies for Jayne McGivern, Don’t Tell David was bred by DP Constable out of Ashbury, who has two-year-old and four-year-old full-brothers to the winner, as well as a yearling by Maxios.

Earlier that afternoon, Mortlach (7g Yeats - Belle Brook, by Alderbrook) made all to justify favouritism in the maiden hurdle for Fergal O’Brien.

Last seen finishing a promising second on stable debut, the Doug Pocock-owned bay was reunited with Paddy Brennan on Thursday, who pushed his mount out to score by two and a half lengths.

Mortlach gained his first career win between the flags for Sean Doyle, who had bought the son of Yeats as a store for €48,000. He is the first winner bred by RT Crellin out of useful chaser Belle Brook.
