Promising Soldier Of Fortune Gelding A Deserving Winner
Sunday saw Lisnagar Fortune (6g Soldier Of Fortune – Asta Belle, by Astarabad) gain a deserved first win over hurdles when justifying favouritism at Punchestown.
Willie Mullins’ charge shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in a bumper last season and went on to place on his first three starts over hurdles. His form received a notable update when stablemate Readin Tommy Wrong, who beat Lisnagar Fortune a short head last time out, won a Grade 1 on Friday.
Partnered by regular rider Paul Townend on Sunday, the bay made all in the two mile maiden hurdle and was pushed along from the second last. Ridden clear before the final furlong, he was pushed out to win by six and a half lengths.
Owned and bred by Denis Fitzgerald, Lisnagar Fortune is a half-brother to high-class hurdler Lisnagar Oscar (Oscar).
