Promising Son Of Getaway Off The Mark In Bumper

Farland (5g Getaway – Askanna, by Old Vic) overcame a troubled passage to justify short-priced favouritism in Friday’s bumper at Fakenham.

The son of Getaway finished a promising second on rules debut at Aintree, despite showing signs of inexperience, while the winner was recording his second success and went on to finish fourth at Listed level. Harry Cobden partnered the Paul Nicholls-trained bay on Friday and became short of room with three furlongs left to race. Pushed along, he had plenty of ground to make up turning for home and once again faced a narrow gap as he downed the leader. Running on well, he led by three parts of a length on the line, with the front pair finishing 11 lengths clear of the third.

Bred by John Asple, Farland is owned by Neil and Alfie Smith. The €100,000 store sale buy is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner Minella Cocooner (Flemensfirth).
