Daily Present (Mahler) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Fairyhouse

Promising Son Of Mahler Draws Clear In Maiden Hurdle

Daily Present (5g Mahler - Another Present, by Presenting) built on a promising rules debut to run out an impressive winner of Saturday’s maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse.

Successful on his sole start between the flags for Michael Goff, the son of Mahler finished second to a well-regarded type on his first run for Paul Nolan last month. Sent off second favourite for the two and a half mile contest, he raced prominently throughout under Sean O’Keeffe and asserted before the second last. Clear approaching the final flight, he kept on well on the run-in to win by eight and a half lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Daily Present had a lovely run at Naas where he galloped through the line. Sean said he had loads left today. He's a light-framed horse so we won't run too often. He'll have to step up now.”

Owned by RM Kelleher, Daily Present is a brother to black-type hurdler Go Millie Go (Milan) and was bred by Thistletown Stud out of a half-sister to Time For Rupert (Flemensfirth).

At Sedgefield the previous day, the progressive Mahler Mission (6g Mahler - Finnow Turkle, by Turtle Island) drew clear to win the two and a half mile maiden hurdle.

The John McConnell-trained raider was sent off favourite, having been placed on all his previous starts, and was ridden to make all by James Bowen. Maintaining a clear advantage approaching the second last, he kept on well to score by 14 lengths.

Owned by Colm Herron, Mahler Mission was bred by Ivor Dulohery out of a half-sister to three black-type performers by Oscar.
