Promising Son Of Westerner Draws Clear In Maiden Hurdle
Western Fold (4g Westerner - Fieldtown, by Anshan) built on two promising runs in bumpers to run out a clear winner of Saturday’s maiden hurdle at Gowran Park.
The Gordon Elliott-trained four-year-old emerged as a smart prospect when finishing third in the valuable Land Rover bumper on debut. He filled the same position on his seasonal return and was sent off second favourite to get off the mark on Saturday.
Settled in second by Jordan Gainford, he led after the fourth last and was shaken up to draw clear approaching the final flight. Keeping on well on the run-in, he scored by ten lengths from a strung-out field.
Owned by Weld-Spec with Dee L’Estrange, Western Fold was bought by his trained with Bobby O’Ryan for €82,000. The son of Castlehyde Stud sire Westerner was bred by Martin Dibbs.
