On The Sixth Day (Westerner) Wins The Bumper At Sligo

Promising Westerner Mare Goes One Better In Bumper

On The Sixth Day (6m Westerner - Creation, by Definite Article) confirmed the promise of last month’s debut second to win Sunday’s bumper at Sligo.

The John Ryan-trained mare was sent off second favourite for the two mile and two furlong contest and raced prominently throughout under Harry Swan. Leading before three furlongs out, she was shaken up to race clear approaching the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length and a quarter.

John Ryan was very complimentary of the winner and said, “She’s a real nice mare and she’ll go to Galway now for a winners’ bumpers. She’s a smashing mare to have, a big strong mare who’s well-bred and we’re very fond of her.”

On The Sixth Day was bred by Michael Monaghan and carries the colours of Sean Monaghan.
