Relegate wins Cheltenham G1 Bumper for Flemensfirth
Katie Walsh steered Relegate (5m Flemensfirth-Last Of The Bunch, by Silver Patriarch) to a superb victory in the concluding G1 Weatherbys Champion Bumper on day two of the Cheltenham.
The unbeaten Flemensfirth mare kept on powerfully up the Cheltenham hill to defeat stable companion Carefully Selected and head home a 1-2-3 for trainer Willie Mullins.
“Katie Walsh just steered her and she thought the further she went, the better she went as her stamina kicked on,” said Mullins. “Relegate has a lovely pedigree and we've hit the jackpot with this one. It is owner Paul McKeon's first Festival runner and winner."
Walsh added: “The further I was going the better I was going, and I knew she would finish well because she stays well. When I went down the hill she started to pass a couple, and when she met the rising ground she took off, thankfully. She's hard as nails, a tough filly."
