Season Begins With Impressive Winner By Soldier Of Fortune
Soldier Of Fortune enjoyed a perfect start to the 2023/2024 Irish point-to-point season when Brave Fortune (4g Soldier Of Fortune - Rachel's Star, by Presenting) ran out an impressive winner of the opening Four-Year-Old Maiden at Castletown-Geoghegan.
The €115,000 store sale buy was presumably held in high regard by Pat Doyle, who debuted the bay in the valuable Goffs Defender Bumper at the Punchestown Festival, when he finished a respectable seventh. Partnered by Pa King on his first start between the flags, he chased the leaders for much of the way and improved to lead before the second last. He was full of running when ten lengths clear approaching the final fence and needed little encouragement to win by 15 lengths.
Bred by The Beeches Stud, Brave Fortune is owned by Linda Mulcahy and Mary Woldridge. The exciting prospect is a brother to Willie Mullins’ unbeaten five-year-old Friends (Mahler), while their dam also has a yearling filly by Crystal Ocean.
