William Munny (Westerner) Wins On Debut at Navan

Smart Son Of Westerner All Heart On Debut

William Munny (6g Westerner - Court My Eye, by Elmaamul) shaped like a smart prospect when denying the short-priced favourite in Saturday’s bumper at Navan.

Barry Connell’s newcomer chased the leaders under Finian Maguire and was asked to challenge two furlongs from home. Quickening between horses approaching the final furlong, he led soon after and kept on gamely to prevail by a short head, with the rallying pair finishing 12 lengths clear of the third. Adding to the smart nature of William Munny’s performance was the runner-up C’Est Ta Chance, who was sent off a short-priced favourite following his debut point-to-point win.

Speaking after the race, the winning owner/trainer said, “William Munny will come on for it because he was very green. I don't know how good he's going to be down the line but he's definitely a nice horse.”

The promising son of Westerner was bred by Denis and Teresa Bergin.
