Basford (4g Soldier Of Fortune - Be My Present, by Presenting) created a fine impression on debut when producing a late challenge to win Sunday’s bumper at Carlisle.

The Jennie Candlish-trained bay was sent off second favourite for the two mile and one furlong contest, and raced towards the back of the field under Sean Quinlan. Pushed along approaching two furlongs out, he made good headway to challenge inside the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length and a quarter on the line.
