Sir Argus (Soldier Of Fortune) Wins The Bumper At Thurles

Soldier Of Fortune Gelding Digs Deep For Bumper Win

The Willie Mullins-trained Sir Argus (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Oligarch Society, by Moscow Society) built on a promising debut to take Thursday’s bumper at Thurles.

A fine fourth on debut in December, he was ridden to make all at Thurles by Patrick Mullins and was asked to quicken when joined by The Last Mardi two furlongs from home. The pair drew clear approaching the final furlong, witb Sir Argus keeping on well to prevail by half a length on the line.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Sir Argus is still very green and I think there is more improvement in him. He has a fantastic staying pedigree and will be better when he steps up in trip.”

A €50,000 foal purchase by Peter and Ross Doyle, Sir Argus is now owned by Mrs Audrey Turley. The son of Soldier Of Fortune was bred by Mr JL Lightfoot out of a half-sister to Irish Grand National winner Thunder And Roses.
