Soldier Of Fortune Gelding Impresses In Maiden Hurdle

Arion Soldier (6g Soldier Of Fortune – Champagne Pop, by Scorpion) shaped like a smart prospect when bolting up in Monday’s maiden hurdle at Cork.

Trained by Eamon Courtney for owner/breeder Valerie Courtney, the bay was last seen finishing third over two miles and stepped up to three miles on his latest start. Settled in midfield by Rocky Doyle, he made headway from four out and led with ease after the second last. Clear approaching the final flight, he was eased on the run-in to win by 15 lengths.

“We are delighted with him,” said the winning trainer. “He had been working well at home and we thought this would be his trip. He is a big horse and chasing is his future. We'll see how he comes out of this and won't rush him - he is worth minding.”
