Soldier Of Fortune Mare Completes Hat-Trick With Listed Win
The promising Coquelicot (4f Soldier Of Fortune – Moscow Nights, by Peintre Celebre) bought her winning run to three when taking Saturday’s Listed Mares’ Bumper at Kempton.
The Anthony Honeyball-trained mare finished second on her first two starts and went on to win her next two in similar contests. With Rex Dingle back on board, she tracked the leaders and led approaching the two furlong marker. Racing clear, she kept on well to justify favouritism by two and a quarter lengths, with the second finishing another 12 lengths clear of the third.
Saturday’s contest has previously produced talented individuals such as subsequent Grade 2 winner Queenohearts (Flemensfirth) and Grade 1 performer Swincombe Flame.
Owned by Geegeez.co.uk, Coquelicot was bred by Madame I Corbani, A Waugh and T Waugh. A half-sister to Ebor Handicap victor and Melbourne Cup second Heartbreak City, she comes from the final French crop of Soldier Of Fortune, who has covered bumper books since transferring to the Beeches Stud. Standing for a fee of €8,000, he sees his first Irish crop sell at the 2020 store sales.
