Soldier Of Fortune Mare Gains Second Listed Win
Coquelicot (7m Soldier Of Fortune - Moscow Nights, by Peintre Celebre) made all to record a second black-type success in the Listed Mares’ Hurdle at Kempton on Monday.
Anthony Honeyball’s dual-purpose mare was well-supported on her return to hurdles and was travelling best of the field with two flights left to jump. Ridden approaching the last, she kept on well on the run-in to beat Grade 1 performer Kateira by six lengths.
“Coquelicot has been a cracking mare,” Anthony Honeyball said after the race. “She does have a high cruising speed for a track like this and I felt she ticked a lot of boxes. It's nice to get a bit of black type over hurdles with her, it was the plan and we'll have to reassess now.”
Coquelicot adds to three wins in bumpers, including one at Listed level, as well as another three wins over hurdles and one win on the flat. The daughter of Soldier Of Fortune was bred by Madame Corbani, A Waugh and T Waugh.
