Soldier Of Fortune Mare Makes Perfect Stable Debut
Belle The Lioness (5m Soldier Of Fortune - Belle Of The Moor, by King’s Theatre) looks like a smart recruit for the Henry de Bromhead team, after making a winning stable debut at Cork on Easter Monday.
A promising third on her sole start as a four-year-old for Donal Barry, the daughter of Soldier Of Fortune was sent off second favourite for the mares’ point-to-point flat race. Davy Roche held the chesnut up at the back of the field and was travelling well when producing a challenge three furlongs from home. Pushed to lead after the two furlong marker, she drew clear to score by five lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “She was really good. She switched off, I could get into the race whenever I wanted and she quickened on down the straight.”
Owned by Ms Michelle Doyle and Sean Barton, Belle The Lioness was bred by Mrs Vera Deegan.
