Soldier Of Fortune Mare Makes Winning Hurdle Debut
Dame De Fortune (5m Soldier Of Fortune - Blodge, by Kalanisi) made a perfect start to her hurdling career in the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Worcester on Wednesday.
The daughter of Soldier Of Fortune joined the Olly Murphy stable after winning a point-to-point maiden by 30 lengths for Cian Collins, and finished a promising third in a bumper on her first start for new connections. Making her hurdle debut over two and a half miles, the bay raced prominently throughout and was shaken up from the third last. Leading at the final flight, she was ridden out on the run-in to score by a length and three quarters.
Dame De Fortune is owned by Five Saints Racing and was bred by Tom O’Hegarty. Her half-brother by Walk In The Park sold for €120,000 at this year’s Derby Sale at Tattersalls Ireland.
