Soldier Of Fortune Mare Takes Maiden Hurdle

Soldaro (5m Soldier Of Fortune - Supreme Beneficial, by Beneficial) justified strong market support to get off the mark in Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Clonmel.

The Gavin Cromwell-trained mare was sent off favourite as she dropped back to two miles and was ridden to chase the leaders by Sean Flanagan. Racing in second as they turned for home, she disputed before the second last and asserted soon after. Pushed out, she won by two and a half lengths in comfortable fashion.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “She has turned into a strong mare and hopefully can go on from this.”
