Son Of Flemensfirth Delights With Grade 3 Success
Kimberlite Candy (8g Flemensfirth - Mandys Native, by Be My Native) built on a promising return last month to win Saturday's Grade 3 staying chase at Warwick.
Second to Walk In The Mill (Walk In The Park) in the Grade 3 Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree, he was sent off second favourite as he stepped up to three miles and five furlongs at the weekend. Richie McLernon rode Tom Lacey’s charge in a prominent position and led from the final fence, going clear to win by ten lengths.
Speaking after the race, a delighted Tom Lacey said, “Kimberlite Candy is a very special horse. We bought him as a three-year-old at the Derby Sale and he's won his races every year and it's really nice today he's backed up his run at Aintree. This is huge and JP's an incredible man, and I'm very lucky to have him as an owner.”
A return to Aintree is now on the agenda for the JP McManus-owned son of Flemensfirth, who was bred by Martin and Leonard O’Hanlon.
