Son Of Getaway Battles Back To Claim Bumper Win
Blaze The Way (6g Getaway – Enniscoffey, by Old Vic) produced a game performance to win his second start in Tuesday’s bumper at Thurles.
Third on debut in December, the Margaret Mullins-trained bay was reunited with Tom Hamilton as he dropped down to two miles on his second start. Tracking the leaders for much of the way, he was ridden to lead two furlongs from home, but was soon challenged. Headed a furlong later, he battled back to score by two and a half lengths from Eastbank Warrior (Westerner). The pair finished 11 lengths clear of the remainder.
“I like him,” the winning trainer later said. “He had a lovely run the first day and is a half-brother to a good horse. We'll talk to the boys and see what they want to do but he'll be a grand horse over a hurdle and has plenty size to jump a fence.”
Mullins co-owns Blaze The Way with breeders Brian and Tom Groarke. The promising son of Getaway is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Enniscoffey Oscar (Oscar).
