Son Of Getaway Beats Hot Favourite In Bumper
Tripoli Flyer (5g Getaway – Collen Beag, by Mountain High) built on a promising debut to beat the well-regarded favourite in Sunday’s bumper at Lingfield.
Fergal O’Brien’s charge finished fifth on his sole previous start in October and faced 12 rivals in Sunday’s Class 2 contest. Settled in midfield by Paddy Brennan, the bay began to improve from five furlongs out and took a prominent position two furlongs later. Produced to challenge at the two furlong marker, he was ridden to lead a furlong out and kept on well to beat €200,000 purchase Kingston Pride by a length and a half. The pair finished ten lengths clear of the remainder.
Fergal O’Brien bought Tripoli Flyer at the store sales for €85,000 and the gelding now carries the colours of Ismail El Magdoub. He continues breeder James Slattery’s success with Getaway, with his own-brother Anyharminasking (Getaway) proving a useful hurdler, while another full-brother sold for €56,000 as a foal.
