Son Of Getaway Leads Them Home On Hurdle Bow

Doc McCoy (5g Getaway - Salvatrice, by Oscar) made a successful switch to hurdles on Monday, as he gained a deserved first win under rules at Huntingdon.

The son of Getaway impressed on his sole point-to-point start for Ian Chanin at Great Trethew and subsequently joined the Jamie Snowden stable. Placed on all his starts in bumpers last season, he was sent off favourite on return in the two and a half mile maiden hurdle. Making all under Gavin Sheehan, he was ridden when challenged at the second last and kept on well from the final flight to win by four lengths and three quarters.

Speaking after the race, Jamie Snowden said, “It is shame Doc McCoy didn't win his bumper, but he has always been a proper jumper. He is an embryonic chaser as he won a point-to-point at Great Trethew.” On future plans the trainer commented, “We could aim him at the EBF Final at Sandown in March. That kind of race is probably his kind of race as it suits proper staying chasers.”

Doc McCoy was bred by Donie O’Brien out of a full-sister to Grade 2 winning chaser Tricky Trickster (Oscar).
