Son Of Getaway Proves A Class Apart On Debut
I Am Fortunata (5g Getaway - Corskeagh Shadow, by Beneficial) emerged as an exciting prospect on Thursday when drawing clear in a competitive bumper at Thurles.
Gordon Elliott’s newcomer was sent off second favourite under Rob James, who positioned the bay at the back of the field and made good headway from five furlongs out. Cruising into second approaching two furlongs out, he led before the final furlong and was shaken up to draw 12 lengths clear on the line.
Speaking after the race, Elliott’s assistant trainer Ian Almond said, “He is a nice horse, he won easy and Rob (James) was delighted with him. He was impressive looking at him and Gordon will chat with the owners and see what they want to do but he looks like he wouldn't be out of place in a good bumper.”
Owned by Claudio Michael Grech, I Am Fortunata was bought by Michael Moore as a three-year-old for £175,000. The son of Grange Stud sire Getaway was bred by Sean Reilly out of a full-sister to Grade 1 performers Shadow Eile and Corskeagh Royale.
