Son Of Milan Back To Best In Grade 2 Hurdle
Brewin’upastorm (8g Milan - Daraheen Diamond, by Husyan) gained a deserved black-type success when leading home a 1-2 for Milan in Sunday’s Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell.
Second and twice fourth at the highest level as a novice hurdler, the Olly Murphy-trained bay won his first two starts over fences but had disappointed after falling in the Arkle last year.
Impressive when returning to hurdling last month, he was sent off second favourite on Sunday and was ridden towards the back of the field by Aidan Coleman. Making good headway to lead at the second last, he soon went clear and was ridden out to beat the favourite McFabulous by five and half lengths.
The Barbara Hester-owned winner will now be aimed at the Aintree Festival, according to Murphy. “He was a very good horse as a novice,” he said. “He was fourth in a Ballymore and second in a Grade 1 at Aintree, and he looked like he was going to be a very good chaser before getting an awful fright in the Arkle.”
Brewin’upastorm first advertised his talents in a Quakerstown point-to-point, where he scored impressively for Timmy Hyde and subsequently sold for £250,000. The son of Grange Stud sire Milan was bred by Longrove Stud.
