Groody Rover (Milan) winning maiden hurdle at Clonmel

Son Of Milan Gains Maiden Hurdle Win

A change in tactics saw Groody River (6g Milan – Glin Beauty, by Turtle Island) produce a promising display to win Wednesday’s Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel.

The Philip Fenton-trained bay was making his third start over hurdles, having previously won his point-to-point by 12 lengths. Brian Hayes rode him to chase the leaders, pushing his mount to lead soon after the second last and keeping on well to beat the favourite Farmix by four and a quarter lengths.

There should be more to come from Groody Hill over fences, according to the winner trainer, who said, “Groody Hill goes on testing ground, it was heavy when he won his point-to-point. He might run in a rated race and he should go chasing next year.”

Owned by Ms Patricia Hogan and bred by Mr W Martin, Groody Hill is by Grange Stud sire Milan.
