Son Of Milan Returns With Easy Grade 3 Victory
The wonderfully consistent McFabulous (6g Milan - Rossavon, by Beneficial) made a winning seasonal return in Friday’s Grade 2 Persian War Novices’ Hurdle at Chepstow.
Successful in a Grade 2 bumper as a five-year-old, the Paul Nicholls-trained bay won his final two starts last season, most recently running out a six and a half length winner of a Grade 3 hurdle in March.
Sent off favourite on return, he raced towards the back of the field under Harry Cobden and made headway from four out. Asserting at the third last flight, he went clear at the final flight and sauntered home three lengths clear of the runner-up.
Nicholls later mentioned the Stayers’ Hurdle as a potential target for McFabulous, adding, “He does everything really easily and some of the lads said they were going some gallop, but Harry said he was only in second gear. He's a lovely horse and we've always thought that.”
Owned by Giraffa Racing and bred by Vincent Finn, the son of Milan was bought by Tom Malone for €88,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.
