Son Of Milan Wins On First Attempt
The Trevor Hemmings-owned newcomer Marown (5g Milan - Rosie Suspect, by Presenting) looked a promising prospect when winning the bumper at Newcastle on Saturday.
Ridden close to the pace by Brian Hughes, he showed his inexperience when asked to challenge two furlongs from home, but rallied on testing ground to lead close home. The winning distance was a length, with the more experienced Show Promise claiming runners-up honours.
Trained by Nicky Richards, Marown was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €80,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale. Bred by John Donovan, he is the first foal out of the mare and his win bodes well for his four-year-old half-brother by Fame And Glory, who sold to the same agent for €90,000 last summer.
