Son Of Soldier Of Fortune Builds On Promising Hurdle Debut
War Soldier (5g Soldier Of Fortune - After Dark, by King’s Theatre) led home a 1-2 for Soldier Of Fortune in Saturday’s two mile maiden hurdle at Newcastle.
Successful in a bumper on his first start under rules last season, Sandy Thomson’s charge finished a promising fourth on his hurdle bow last month and was sent off second favourite at the weekend. Chasing the leader for much of the way under Ryan Mania, he led from three out and was ridden approaching the final flight. Keeping on well on the run-in, he denied Sergeant Wilson (Soldier Of Fortune) by half a length, with another eight and a half lengths back to the third horse.
War Soldier is owned by J Townson, M Roche and P Thompson, having been sourced from the Warren Ewing stable following his third placing in a four-year-old maiden. The son of Soldier Of Fortune was bred by Jack Bennett and provides an important update for his Mahler half-brother selling at the upcoming Goffs December NH Sale.
