General Officer (Soldier Of Fortune) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Musselburgh

Son Of Soldier Of Fortune In Command On Hurdle Debut

General Officer (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Oscar’swan, by Oscar) could hardly have been more impressive when drawing clear on his hurdle debut at Musselburgh on Wednesday.

The son of Soldier Of Fortune joined the Donald McCain yard after winning a five-year-old maiden at Tinahely for Colin Bowe and finished a promising third in a bumper on rules debut last month. Sent off favourite for Wednesday’s maiden hurdle, he was ridden to make all by Brian Hughes and was shaken up to go clear from two out. Never challenged, he was eased down on the run-in to score by 18 lengths.

Owned by J Fyffe, General Officer is the first foal bred by James Slattery out of Oscar’swan (Oscar).
