Howlingmadmurdock (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Bell Storm, by Glacial Storm) appears to have a bright future over hurdles, having produced a taking hurdle debut at Plumpton on Tuesday.

The Soldier of Fortune gelding joined the Tom Lacey yard following a comfortable debut win in a bumper last season for Anthony Honeyball, and was well-supported to make a winning return in the two mile Novices’ Hurdle. Ridden prominently by Stan Sheppard, he was ridden to lead at the final flight and kept on well to win by four lengths, going away.

Owned by Valueracingclub.co.uk, Howlingmadmurdock was bred by The Beeches and Grange Stud out of a half-sister to Grade 1 performer Time For Rupert (Flemensfirth).
