Son Of Westerner Blazes Home On Bumper Debut
Promising point-to-pointer Blazer’s Mill (5g Westerner - Creation, by Definite Article) made all to justify favouritism in the bumper at Fontwell on Thursday.
The bay was having his first start for Olly Murphy and owner Mrs Wakefield following his £160,000 at the Goffs Aintree Sale last April. Ridden by Fergus Gregory, he began to hold off challenges from the home turn and was pushed along to extend his lead to two lengths at the two furlong pole, gradually drawing three and a half lengths clear on the line.
The future looks bright for Blazer’s Mill, with excellent form of his sole point-to-point start for Warren Ewing. He finished second to Birchdale at Tyrella, beaten just a length, with the winner having gone on to win the Grade 2 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle impressively.
Blazer’s Mill was bred by Mrs P Mansergh-Wallace and comes from the family of Coneygree.
