Son Of Westerner Bounces Back In Novice Hurdle

Sunday saw Western Zephyr (6g Westerner - Beneficial Breeze, by Beneficial) record his third win this season in the Novices Hurdle at Huntingdon.

Charlie Longsdon’s charge made a smart hurdle debut in November and doubled up over Sunday’s course and distance in January. Partnered by Bradley Roberts on his latest start, he raced prominently throughout and was ridden approaching the second last. Leading on the run-in, he kept on well to beat the favourite by half a length, with another nine lengths back to the third.

Western Zephyr is a five-time winner overall, having drawn clear on his sole start for Francesca Poste, before taking a bumper on rules debut for current connections. The son of Westerner was bred by Longrove Stud out of Beneficial Breeze, who has a four-year-old gelding by Milan.
