Wetlands (Westerner) Completes A Hat Trick At Carlisle

Son Of Westerner Completes Impressive Hat Trick

Wetlands (6g Westerner - Un Jour D Ete, by Dano-Mast) produced an impressive performance under a penalty to win Saturday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Carlisle.

Trained by Nicky Richards for Trevor Hemmings, the son of Westerner came into the race with two straight wins to his name and was joined by regular rider Brian Hughes to complete the hat-trick. Tracking the leader for much of the way, he made smooth headway to lead before the second last and went clear approaching the final flight. Running on strongly, he won by 13 lengths.

Never out of the first four, Wetlands also has a bumper win to his name. Bred by Aidan McGoldrick, he is the first foal out of a half-sister to the useful hurdler Sweet My Lord.
