Son Of Westerner Defies Penalty In Good Style
Fortescue Wood (8g Westerner - Primrose Time, by Alfora) made it two from three over hurdles when running out an impressive winner at Ayr on Monday.
Nick Alexander’s charge previously won a competitive bumper and made a successful return to action on his hurdle debut earlier this season. Reunited with Bruce Lynn for the two mile Novices’ Hurdle, the bay made most of the running and drew clear from two out. He needed little encouragement to lead by seven lengths on the line, as maiden hurdle winner Benassi (Westerner) finished best of the remainder.
Owned by Bowen and Nicol, Fortescue Wood was bred by Mrs DA Whitaker.
