Son Of Westerner Defies Penalty On Stable Debut
Supremely West (5g Westerner - Blue Supreme, by Pistolet Bleu) made a perfect start for new connections when making all to win Wednesday’s bumper at Huntingdon.
The son of Westerner landed a bumper at Tramore on his rules debut for Michelle Gannon and subsequently sold privately to the Dr Richard Newland yard. Ridden by Charlie Hammond on Wednesday, the bay began to quicken from five furlongs out and was pushed along from the two furlong pole. Keeping on well inside the final furlong, he won by a length and three quarters from Westerninthepark (Walk In The Park), while Resplendent Grey (Walk In The Park) took third.
“Supremely West is a good prospect,” Charlie Hammond said after the race. “I gave him a squeeze along the back and he won well. He's schooled well at home and that was a good performance under a penalty.”
Supremely West was bred by Padraig Barry, whose colours he carried on his first career success. The son of Westerner is a full-brother to dual winner Smiths Cross (Westerner).
