Son Of Westerner Defies Penalty With Ease
Supremely West (5g Westerner - Blue Supreme, by Pistolet Bleu) added another smart hurdle win to his fine record when justifying favouritism at Sedgefield on Thursday.
The son of Westerner joined Dr Richard Newland following a winning rules debut for Michelle Gannon and went on to win his next two starts in bumpers. Runner-up on hurdle debut, he drew 12 lengths clear on his seasonal return last month and was sent off favourite to follow up in Thursday’s novice hurdle.
Stepping up to two and a half miles, the bay raced prominently under Charlie Hammond and was travelling well at the second last. Pushed clear approaching the final flight, he kept on well on the run-in to win by four lengths and three quarters.
The now five-time winner was bred by Padraig Barry.
