Son Of Westerner Destined For Bigger Things
The Little Yank (4g Westerner - Long Walk Home, by Presenting) proved a class above his rivals when justifying favoritism in Sunday’s bumper at Tipperary.
The John Patrick Ryan-trained bay finished second on debut last month and the form had since enjoyed a boost. Liam Quinlan gradually dropped him towards the back of the field, took closer order with four furlongs left to race and led before the two furlong pole. Pushed clear, he was eased down close home, crossing the line seven and a half lengths clear of the strung-out field.
Ryan was full of praise for the winner, saying, “He is a real proper one. I had Foildubh who was rated 154 and had other good horses in my time but this is the best of them all. He is such a good jumper, he is schooled over fences and could have run in a point to point but we might keep him for a Listed bumper now.”
Owned by Seamus Casey, The Little Yank was bred by Patrick and Morgan Cahalan out of maiden hurdle winner Long Walk Home.
